PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a nonwoven fabric excellent in dimensional stability and shape retention and suitable as e.g. a separator for alkali secondary batteries of minimal self-discharge by subjecting specific high-modulus polyolefin fibers and fibrillar fibers to mixed papermaking process. SOLUTION: This nonwoven fabric is obtained by mixing 3-70 wt.% of high- modulus polyolefin fibers 0.05-0.8 denier in single fiber fineness, 1-80 (pref. 1-20) mm in fiber length, and 500-2,700 g/d in elastic modulus and 10-90 wt.% of fibrillar fibers consisting of synthetic pulp or cellulose fibers followed by subjecting the mixed fibers to papermaking process. This nonwoven fabric thus produced is 20-150 μm in thickness and 15-100 g/m2 in basis weight and suitable as a battery separator, or 80-300 μm in thickness and 20-100 g/m2 in basis weight and suitable as a filter. |
