摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve polishing water jet work for an engineering material by measuring machinability of the material including a boring through a tested material while performing measurement of boring time of a boring process and computation of machinability from the boring time. SOLUTION: A controller 30 starts a counting sequence and continues it to the completion of boring, an air supply source 40 gives a constant flow of air to a nozzle shield 15 during the boring operation, and a pressure sensor 42 senses a constant output signal to the controller 30 represented by a horizontal signal in a specified area. When pressure increase generated at the time of completion of boring is detected by the sensor 42, the controller 30 stops the counting sequence and registers the time for the completion of boring measured. Simultaneously therewith, machinability for milling programmed in the controller 30 is computed and stored from the boring completion time and a grindable characteristic of a workpiece 16 is measured.
