PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small ink jet printer having an approach part and an overrun part of an ink carriage of narrow breadths. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer includes a supporting shaft 66, an ink carriage 63 with a plurality of ink heads, a strut 65 having one end set to the supporting shaft 66 and the other end fixed to the ink carriage 63, a paper tray for storing recording papers 62, a recording paper pickup roller for taking out the recording papers 62 from the paper tray one by one, a recording paper transfer roller for sequentially transferring the recording papers 62 taken out by the recording paper pickup roller, and a control device for controlling the feed of recording papers 62, motion of the ink carriage 63 and jetting ink from the ink heads.
