The door or window, opening by means of concealed hinges on one side and a catch on the other, is made to look like a two-paneled door or window with a central opening by having vertical bars (7) separating two double-glazed panels (9). The bars are made from assembled internal and external extrusions of a color selected to go with the interior and exterior components of the main frame, and they are fitted with a thermal bridge breaking system with plastic strips (13). The upper and lower ends of the vertical bars are shaped, e.g. by machining or cutting, to fit with the main frame horizontal members at the top and bottom of the door or window.
