PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital subscriber line(DSL) modem for applying a further high speed, while maintaining connectability with analog electric communication equipment. SOLUTION: Whether an electrical communication line 18 connected with DSL modem 36 and 38 is in an on-hook state or off-hook state is detected, and when the on-hook state is detected, data are communicated with a first frequency spectrum, and when the off-hook state is detected, data are communicated with a second frequency spectrum.
