PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device in a sheet through scan system in which the efficiency of original reading processing is superior. SOLUTION: An original S1 is carried at a speed V1 by a resist roller 1126, and a scanner 11 is moved at a speed V2, so that the image information of the original can be read at a relative speed (V1-V2) from an original read starting position P1. The reading of the original S1 is ended at an original reading end position P2, and thereafter immediately the scanner 11 is restored to a home position P0, so that when the top end of the next original passes through the original reading start position P1, the scanner 11 can reach the position, and read the next original is continuation.
