854,081. Change-speed control. KLANE, H. March 4, 1959 [March 14, 1958], No. 7558/59. Class 80 (2). A track-laying vehicle has change-speed gearing providing four forward and four reverse speeds, a manual shift lever 7 being moved transversely to the vehicle axis to control the engagement of clutches 22, 25 (only two shown in Fig. 2) engaging the gear ratios and being moved parallel to the axis, forwardly to engage a forward clutch 18 and rearwardly to engage a reverse clutch 19. The clutches are all of the dry disc type and are engaged by fluid pressure. The gearing is of the constant mesh type, and the reverse gearing 17, which precedes the rest 21 of the gearing, provides forward drive when an input shaft 16 is geared to a driven shaft 20 with the interposition of an idler 34, and reverse when two idlers are interposed. |
