PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an orifice position confirming method capable of confirming the position of a nozzle orifice highly accurately by clearing the contrast of the opening area of the nozzle orifice and the periphery thereof and an ink jet head. SOLUTION: The light emitted along the optical axis crossing a vibration plate 15 at a right angle through a nozzle orifice 14a is imaged by a CCD camera. Gold 17 is vapor-deposited on the vibration plate 15 in order to make the reflectivity of the reflecting surface of the vibration plate 15 of a head 11 higher than that of the periphery of the nozzle orifice 14a. Further, the area of the reflecting surface by gold 17 is made larger than the opening area of the nozzle orifice 14a.
