PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect damage to a rope sheath by transmitting a control signal using a breaking element embedded in the sheath of a synthetic fiber rope as a damage indicator. SOLUTION: A breaking element 9 comprising an electroconductor such as a copper wire, an optical cable wire or the like is embedded in a rope sheath 8, and a control signal is transmitted through the breaking element 9 via a control circuit to detect the damage to the rope sheath 8 in a rope 1 obtained by coating the outermost layer 6 obtained by arranging strands 2 through a wear resistant intermediate sheath 7 on an inner layer 5 having a filler strands 3 and aramid fiber strands 2 arranged around a core 4, with the rope sheath 8.
