PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the device for monitoring the penetration of an electrode in a plasma machine by which the jetting of cooling water can be minimized by quickly sensing the penetration of the electrode. SOLUTION: When the electrode 15 provided in a torch 13 of the plasma machine is consumed and penetrated due to its use, since the cooling water charged from a water charging pipe for cooling the electrode 15 is reduced, the pressure and/or the flow rate of the cooling water in a water discharging pipe 17 for recovering the cooing water are reduced. This conditions are detected by a cooling water monitoring means 19 to sense the penetration of the electrode 15, then a pump 9 is stopped to stop the circulation of the cooling water.
