PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for demolition of a side plate of a tank wherein the side plate is thrown down sideways safely inside or outside the tank and cut to fragments on the ground, while works at high levels are lessened. SOLUTION: A vertical slit is provided in a side plate 22c to which a balance 25 is not fixed, and a wire rope of a haul type jack 24b is passed through the vertical slit and fastened to a piece 26b of the balance 25 from inside a tank 19. Besides, a wire rope 28a of a haul type jack 24a is fastened to a piece 26a of the balance 25 from outside the tank 19. The wire ropes fastened to the balance 25 are drawn in and regulated by the haul type jacks 24a and 24b. With the wire ropes regulated to be extended or contracted by the two haul type jacks 24a and 24b, subsequently, a side plate 22a to which the balance 25 is fixed is made to fall down inside the tank.
