PURPOSE: A gear train of an automatic transmission for a vehicle improves the power performance and the fuel economy of the vehicle by realizing a five speeds speed change with a simple constitution, thereby effectively using the output of an engine. CONSTITUTION: A gear train comprises an accelerating device(4), a speed changing device, a clutch device and a braking device. The accelerating device(4) transmits a torque outputted from an engine to an input shaft(2) after converting the torque. The clutch device has friction members(30,32,34) variably connecting gear members(28,18,16) to the input shaft(2). The braking device has friction members(40,42) selectively connecting gear members(14,28) to a transmission housing(44). Thus, a speed change of 5 speeds is realized by the combination of planetary gears using three sun gears, thereby improving the power performance and the fuel economy of a vehicle, thereby effectively using the output of an engine.
