PURPOSE: A cathode structure for cathode ray tube is provided to lengthen a lifetime of a cathode by adding one or more kind of alkaline earth metal except a magnesium to a gas metal. CONSTITUTION: A cathode heater(4) is inserted into an upper end of a cylindrical sleeve(2). A gas metal(1) including an active metal is formed on the upper end of the cylindrical sleeve(2). An electron emission material(3) formed with a complex oxide including BaO is formed on the on the upper end of the cylindrical sleeve(2). The gas metal comprises Mg, Si, and a kind of alkaline earth metal. The alkaline earth metal is formed with a Ba, Sr, and Ca.
