PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a reversal of gradation in gradation transition of one level and to perform an excellent gradation display by deciding a temporal division ratio of a field so as to divide further the time width of the high-order field with a specified expression. SOLUTION: When the number of sub-pixels constituting one pixel is defined N pieces, and areal rations of respective sub-pixels are 1:S2:S3:...:SN, and the number of fields is N, and the temporal division rations of the fields are 1:T2:T3:...:TN, a control means performs a multilevel display with the temporal division ratio TA becoming a second field < an A-th field < an N-th field decided in the expression. For instance, in the temporal division ratios of T1:T2:T3=1:4:16, the highest rank T3 is divided equally such as T3=T4=8 (that is, T1:T2:T3:T4=1:4:8:8). Further, simultaneously, respective gradation displays are made controllable independently.
