PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device having a memory function by which a transparent state and an opaque state are formed according to application of voltage in a short time and the transparent state and opaque state are maintained after the voltage is removed. SOLUTION: Electrodes 12, 13 are formed on substrates 10, 11, respectively, and the surfaces of the electrodes are subjected to horizontal alignment treatment to horizontally align a nematic liquid crystal. Then a liquid crystal polymer composite layer 15 prepared by dispersing two-frequency driving liquid crystal having dielectric anisotropy depending on frequencies in a droplet state in a polymer layer is held between the electrode substrates.
