PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decode and display the image signals which are coded by MPEG2 by means of a digital set top box and with no decoding nor display devices required newly by performing the control so as to switch the coded image signals which are to be decoded. SOLUTION: A control means is prepared to perform the control to switch the coded image signals which are to be decoded together with a coded image switching means which switches those coded image signals under the control of the control means. A coded image signal switch 71 of this device selects a broadcast coded image signal when the switch 71 is controlled to select the broadcast coded image signal and selects the coded image signal to which an identification signal is added when the switch 71 is controlled to select the coded image signal to which the identification signal is added to show that an external input image is coded respectively by the control signal existing on a transmission line 8. Then the coded image signal that is selected by the switch 71 is outputted to a decoder 72. The decoder 72 decodes the received coded image signal via the variable length decoding and outputs the decoded image signal to an output part 9.
