PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high contrast image pickup device capable of coping with the way of change in the illuminance of an object, widening a dynamic range and preventing unrequired contrast decline. SOLUTION: Two images picked up by changing an exposure by a camera 10 are outputted to an image processor 11, a maximum pixel value and a minimum pixel value in plural parts to be image picked up are respectively obtained by the image processor 11 and the exposure is changed so as to eliminate a difference from between those values and reference values and outputted to the camera 10.
