PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with a back light, capable of suppressing the contrast spot of an LCD due to the heat of a back light source. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device which is provided with an LCD unit 50 and an edge light type back light unit 60 provided for this LCD unit 50 is provided with a temp. difference detecting means 1 which detects the temp. difference between the temp. of the neighborhood of the light source 61 of the back light unit 60 and the temp. of a position distant from the neighborhood of the light source 61 within the display range of the LCD unit 50 and a back light control part 2 reducing the driving power of the light source 61 when a temp. difference to be detected by the temp. difference detecting means 1 is increased. The spot of the contrast of the LCD is lessened by lowering the luminance of the light source 61 while reducing the driving power of the light source 61 when the temp. difference to be inputted from the means 1 is increased.
