A free pivot for use in conjunction with a reclining seat. The reclining seat includes a base frame having a first side and a second side, and a back frame (22) having a first end (26) and a second end. The first end of the back frame is pivotally coupled to the first end of the base frame by a reclining mechanism. The free pivot includes a tubular fitting (30) coupled to the second end of the back frame and a mandrel (32) carried by the second side of the base frame. The mandrel is rotatably received by the tubular fitting.
