A new compost bin has four sidewalls and an open access aperture which is closed by a hinged lid which is opened and closed by a lever mechanism that allows the lid to be partially opened to a first position giving unhindered access for small quantities of organic refuse, or to be opened to a second fully open position which gives unhindered access to the full aperture.
