The building unit (1) consists of two pipes of different diameters fitting into each other. The inner pipe (5) is axially movable in relation to the outer pipe (2) by means of a snap-in locking device (10) formed by a connecting track (7) on the outer surface (6) of the inner pipe, and by a protuberance on the outer pipe fitting into the slide track. The slide track has upward pointing sections (9) spaced apart from each other between single track-pieces (8).
