A liquid crystal display device (80) comprising liquid crystal (85) sealed between a first substrate (81) with an electrode (83) and a second substrate (82) with an electrode (84) is provided with a semiconductor device (1) for driving the liquid crystal display device. The semiconductor device (1) includes an integrated-circuit chip (12) having a plurality of protruding electrodes (24) that extend from the chip surface to two sides so as to connect electrode pads on the chip surface to the lower electrode. The semiconductor device (1) is placed in such a manner that one side of the integrated-circuit chip (12) is faced with an extended part of the first substrate (81) of the liquid crystal display device (80), and the protruding electrodes (24) are connected with the electrode (83) on the first substrate. The other side of the integrated-circuit chip (12) is connected with an end of an FPC (60). This liquid crystal display device can be made compact with reduced contact areas.
