A fuel cell anode for MeOH oxidation with a platinum metal or a platinum metal alloy as the primary catalytic component is such that there is also present as co-catalyst a transition metal complex of an optionally substituted phthalocyanine to reinforce the catalytic effect of the platinum metal component.
