A device is disclosed for manufacturing blanks by cutting a continuous web of material (11), in particular for forming the flaps of hinge-lid boxes. For the continuously conveyed web of material (11) to be processed without problems, the width and/or thickness of the web of material are continuously inspected by an inspection unit (17) through which the material unit is conveyed. The web of material (11) is illumined inside the inspection unit (17). The reflected light is captured by optoelectronic sensors, namely a linear array CCD chip (28) with individual sensors (i.e. pixels) which accurately determine the width of the web of material (11) depending on the light impinging upon them, and generate a signal when undesirable deviations occur. |
