PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent increase in diesel knock caused by intermittent feeling for audition to substantially lower the diesel knock. SOLUTION: Output signals of pressure sensors 2 for each cylinder are read one after another (Step 1), and a value of a predetermined high frequency band is calculated (Step 2). A high frequency component value of a cylinder having the smallest high frequency component value is defined as a reference, and then difference between the smallest high frequency component value of the cylinder and that of each of the other cylinders is obtained (Step 3). Engine speed and load are read (Step 4), and then a tolerance value is set as a reference (Step 5). The difference of the high frequency component for each cylinder is compared with the tolerance value (Step 6). If the difference is larger than the tolerance value, a pilot injection amount of the cylinder is gradually increased to lower a value of a high frequency band of combustion pressure (Step 8). Combustion noise of each cylinder is uniformed to decrease low level fluctuation noise, thereby diesel knock is substantially restrained.
