PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a precoating method for the precoat type filtering and desalting device always having a good precoat layer irrespective of the size of the device and capable of simultaneously exhibiting excellent filtering and desalting performance. SOLUTION: A precoating material is precoated on the surface of the element 6 of the filtering and desalting device by controlling the amount of precoating material suspension so that both conditions that the passing linear velocity per total area of element is 2.5-6.0 m/h, preferably 3-5 m/h, and also the rising speed in column at a filtering and desalting column 5 is 100-270 m/h, preferably 120-200 m/h, may be simultaneously satisfied.
