PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer composite material which is advantageous in weight-saving, improvement of the resistance to damage and the resistance to fracture of hollow oxide particles and inhibition of damages on an opponent material when such a material is present. SOLUTION: The polymer composite material comprises a base material comprising a polymer material as a main component and hollow oxide particles having a shell thickness of 35 nm or less which are dispersed in at least a part of the base substrate. The hollow oxide particles may be alumina or oxides essentially comprising aluminum. Preferably, hollow oxide particles have a shell thickness of 20 nm or less and an average particle size of from 50 nm to 5μm.
