PURPOSE: An azimuth propeller apparatus is provided to increase the regulation property of a ship during voyage at a low speed and to propel the ship with high efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A diesel engine(25) drives a generator(27) to propel a ship, and the power output from the generator drives a motor(17) stored in a pod(15). The motor rotates a propeller shaft(19) for rotating a propeller(21), and the rotated propeller pushes water toward a rear part from a pointer direction. As a result, the ship is propelled forward. The motor(31) rotates gears(33,35) to change a course so that a shaft(13) is rotated, and an azimuth propeller apparatus(1) is rotated. Then the direction is changed, and the propeller gives a propulsive force to the body of a ship while buoyancy is generated in a steering plate(23). Thus, a horizontal force is given to the body of the ship, and the course is changed with the propulsive force and buoyancy.
