PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grind without damage due to partial contact by forming a flat file, at leset one dressed surface of which is crest-shaped in its longitudinal section. SOLUTION: One surface in a both-sided file 1 having the same or different roughness on both sides is formed to be crest-shaped in the longitudinal section. The surface of a work is filed by a file with the top 1a of the crest-shaped surface pressed to the surface of the work. That is, the crest-shaped top 1a of the file 1 is brought into partial contact with the work surface to perform filing, so that filing is performed without partial contact so as to grind the work surface without damage, and further since the concentrated load is applied to grind, the grinding force is improved. In the case of the both-sided file having the same roughness on both sides and having one crest-shaped surface, filing is performed with the flat surface, and then filing is performed with the crest- shaped surface to smooth the finished surface.
