NOVEL CATALYST, PRODUCTION OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE AND USE OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE IN OXIDATION PROCESS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the productivity of hydrogen peroxide synthesis by using a catalyst comprising a group VIII metal supported on a catalyst carrier formed from an acidic activated carbon functionalized with sulfo groups. SOLUTION: The catalyst is prepared from a group VIII metal supported on an acidic activated carbon carrier functionalized with sulfo groups and hydrogen peroxide is produced from hydrogen and oxygen in a solvent in the presence of a catalyst system consisting of a promoter and the catalyst. The amount of the group VIII metal is 0.05-5 wt.% of that of the carrier and 0.1-1 wt.% sulfur is optionally contained in the functionalized activated carbon. The catalyst is obtained by bringing an activated carbon into contact with a sulfonating agent, washing the functionalized activated carbon, treating the sulfonated activated carbon with an oxidizing agent and carrying out washing and drying.
