PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To notify print end surely regardless of unspecified factors, e.g. print data processing speed, communication speed or print speed. SOLUTION: A CPU 1 stores print data from a host computer sequentially in the receiving buffer of an RAM 3 and develops line by line to a line buffer for printing. If an end notification request command ENR is present in the print data, complete ending of mechanism operation concerning to printing is waited. When print end is confirmed by stoppage of a carriage motor 8 or operation of an auto-cutter 10, print end information bit is set at '1(end)'. In response to a status request from the host computer, CPU 1 transmits status information containing the print end information bit to the host computer.
