The foodstuffs packaging has quality testing and indicator means. The indicators are adapted to the nature of the contents. The quality tester is incorporated into the packaging and can be seen from outside, and form a single unit. The use-by date on the packaging does not guarantee that the contents are good. Thus, the quality indicator may be a strip incorporated into the packaging and give an indication of the quality of the contents both before and after the packaging has been opened.
