PUSHER ELEMENTS FOR PACKAGE SORTATION CONVEYOR

Single and dual direction diverting pusher elements (18) for a sortation conveyor and other appropriate conveyors. The diverting pusher elements (18) include a right hand diverting pusher element and a left hand diverting push er element which are mirror images of each other, and a dual direction divertin g pusher element which is substantially a combination of portions of the left and right hand diverting pusher elements. The pusher elements are provided with package engaging bumpers (34) which are enlarged in height, length and pushing surface area to reduce slippage and to increase pushing accuracy. Ea ch pusher element has a forward apron-like surface having upper and lower surfa ce areas (20, 21), the lower surface area (20) sloping upwardly at a lesser ang le to the horizontal than the upper area (21) to give maximum package-lifting characteristics. The upper surface of each pusher element is provided with upwardly sloping ribs (25, 26, 27) which strengthen the bumber mounting syst em and also serve as lifting surfaces.
