PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pressing plate for picture reader which excludes inability of that a securing a prescribed opening angle due to a twist at the time of opening, and will not easily produce erroneous detection of an original size. SOLUTION: A suspending means is installed in the center of the width direction of a device main body 2 in a center folding-type pressing plate 1. The suspending means is formed of a back supporting part 12 in the innermost part of the back part 3, a front supporting member 13 in the outermost part of a front part 4 and a suspending member 14 suspended between the parts 12 and 13. The base end part of the suspending member 14 is fitted to the back supporting part 12 so that it can vertically turn. A tip part on this side is made to pass through the front supporting part 13 so as to fix a knob 16. At the time of opening the plate 1, push-up force concentrates in the center even if any part of the knob is held. The center part of the width direction of the front part 4 is supported by the suspending member 14, the plate 1 opens with good balance and the opening angleθ1 of the inner part 3 is uniformly maintained.
