PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain polyester fibers capable of giving woven/knitted fabrics with excellent puffiness, soft touch and resilient feeling by drawing undrawn polyester yarns with its structural integrity parameter within a given range at each specific temperature and draw ratio followed by heat setting at a specific temperature. SOLUTION: The polyester fibers are obtained by drawing undrawn polyester yarns with its structural integrity parameter (ε0.2) being 30-85% of polyethylene terephthalate, polypropylene terephthalate, polybutylene terephthalate, or the like at 75-110 deg.C, pref. 85-105 deg.C and at a draw ratio of 1.01-1.35 followed by heat setting at 110-145 deg.C, pref. 120-140 deg.C, more pref. 125-135 deg.C. The polyester fibers thus obtained have the following characteristics: Uster unevenness: pref. <=2.5, the standard deviation of boiling water shrinkage in the longitudinal direction: pref. <=0.40, and structural integrity parameter (ε0.2): pref. 5-40%.
