PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coal fired boiler in which the output can be increased or decreased in a short time upon variation of load regardless of the kind of coal to be used and undue quantity of fuel can be reduced. SOLUTION: Variation rate of generator output command MWD is determined by a differentiator 10 and the output from a variation rate limiter 11 is increased as the r.p.m. of a rotary classifier increases based on the output from a function generator 20 thus increasing the incremental ratioα1 of a command BIR for increasing the transient quantity of fuel. On the other hand, an upper limit of the BIR being held when the variation rate of generator output command MWD is constant is determined and multiplied by the output from a function generator 21 by means of a multiplier 22. Upper limit of the BIR is increased as the r.p.m. of the rotary classifier increase and the ratio -β1 for decreasing fuel is increased when the output is settled.
