PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sample treatment apparatus in which whether or not a treatment opera tion is functioning correctly can be checked by a method, wherein the operating state of a sample treatment system is decided on the basis of a measured result before and after a sample is diluted. SOLUTION: With the use of a pump P1 for sample agitation a sample is sucked into a container 20 from the tube 12 of a complex tube 10. When a measured conductivityδ1 of a detection part S1 is larger than or equal to a set value (a), a deciding part 54 decides that a sample amount and a suction operation are good. A suction operation, a discharge operation and a stirring operation are continued. After the suction operation, the discharge operation and the stirring operation are finished, a pump P2 for sample suction makes the sample flow into a tube 14, a detection part S2 and a sample quantitative-determination part 34. When a measured conductivityδ2 of the detection part S2 >= a set value (b), the deciding part 54 decides that a treatment operation has no problem. After the decision, a pump P3 transfers the sample in the sample quantitative-determination part 34 to a chamber 43, together with a diluent. At the same time, a pump P4 discharges a stain solution to the chamber 43 to be mixed uniformly by a stirring means 46, and a liquid for measurement is prepared. While the liquid for measurement is being transferred to a measuring part from a discharge flow passage 47, the conductivityδ3 of the liquid is measured by a detection part S3. The judgment part 54 decides on the quality of a sample treatment operation is, on the basis of the measured result of the detection part S2 and that of the detection part S3.
