PURPOSE: A method for dyeing shells is provided which has excellent dyeing levelness and fastness even at ambient temperature, thereby minimizing discoloration due to light or washing. CONSTITUTION: A method for dyeing shells comprises first process comprising mixing raw shells cut into a desired shape with a suspension composed of water and diatomaceous earth, where the weight ratio of water to diatomaceous earth is in the range of 100 : 9 - 11, and putting them into a cylinder to rotate them for 3 - 5 hours; second process comprising mixing, in terms of weight ratio, 10 % of the shells after the first process with 10 % of water, putting them into a rotatory barrel and then dropping thereto 0.2 % of an acid solution composed of water, aluminium sulfate, hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid in a weight ratio of 10000 : 19 - 21 : 6900 - 7100 : 900 - 1100 over 1 - 2 hours while rotating; third process comprising immersing the shells after the second process into a bleaching agent-mixed solution composed of water, hydrogen peroxide, magnesium sulfate and surfactant in a weight ratio of 10000 : 1400 - 1600 : 19 - 21 : 9 - 11 and leaving them at temperatures of 75-85°C for 3 - 4 hours; fourth process comprising immersing the shells after the third process into a dyeing bath composed of water and dye in a weight ratio of 1000 : 10 - 20 and leaving them at temperatures of 75-85°C for 12 - 24 hours; fifth process comprising putting a mixture of the shells after the fourth process and water mixed in a weight ratio of 30 - 50 : 10000 into a rotatory barrel and dropping thereto 5 % (v/v) solution of sulfuric acid at a rate of 3 - 5 droplet per second, rotating them for 5 - 10 minutes; sixth process comprising rotating the shells after the fifth process mixed with a mixture of rice and melt wax in the rotatory barrel for 1 - 2 hours.
