PURPOSE: A method for driving a printer is provided to compensate the operation error of the printer. CONSTITUTION: A method for driving a printer includes following steps. At the first step(110), a photo sensitive belt is rotated by rotating a roller. At the second step(120), a time is counted from the point when the photo sensitive belt is commenced to proceed. At the third step(130), whether a belt edge detecting signal and a rail position acknowledgement signal are input from an optical detector and a pattern discriminator is determined. At the forth step(140), whether the time counted at the second step reaches a preset time is determined. At the fifth step, the second step is repeated when the time counted does not reach the preset time. At the sixth step(150), the belt edge detecting signal and/or the position acknowledgement signal error is displayed.
