PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device is provided to prevent color shift during white status and to shorten the response time. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes upper and lower substrates(20,10), a liquid crystal, a pixel electrode(14), and a counter electrode(22). The upper and lower substrates(20,10) are aligned with each other by a predetermined distance. The liquid crystal is inserted between the upper and lower substrates and includes a plurality of molecules. The dielectric amorphous is negative. The pixel electrode(14) is formed on the inner side of the lower substrate and accepts display signal. The counter electrode(22) is formed on the inner side of the upper substrate and actuates the liquid crystal by forming an electric field with the pixel electrode. The electric field normal to the surface of the substrate and slant to the surface of the substrate is formed simultaneously when a voltage difference between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode is generated.
