PURPOSE: A communication system is provided to supply services in real time between different Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers(IEEE) 1394 networks by high speed communication through an external communication network, by configuring a network with IEEE 1394 serial buses to connect the network with other IEEE 1394 network through the external communication network. CONSTITUTION: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers(IEEE) 1394 networks are connected to an external communication network, through IEEE 1394 network terminators(NT). A communication system between the IEEE networks comprises many IEEE 1394 networks(200,202), many IEEE 1394 network NT(102,106), and the external communication network(104). The IEEE 1394 networks support IEEE 1394 serial buses to each node of the IEEE 1394 networks. A device communicates with the external communication network and the IEEE 1394 networks, according to a communication request from a user. The device is connected to the IEEE 1394 networks. The IEEE 1394 NT are connected with each node of the IEEE 1394 networks, and are connected to the external communication network. The IEEE 1394 NT convert data received from the external communication network into internal protocol forms of the IEEE 1394 networks. The IEEE 1394 NT convert the data of the internal protocol forms into data having protocol forms of the external communication network. The external communication network sets up a connection between the IEEE 1394 networks.
