摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily measure the ultrasonic propagation velocity on a wedge by providing one or more ultrasonic reflecting faces perpendicular to the propagating direction of ultrasonic waves, in a propagation path of the ultrasonic waves emitted into an ultrasonic propagation medium from a piezoelectric vibrator. SOLUTION: This ultrasonic sensor 10 is constituted of a wedge 12 and a piezoelectric vibrator 11 provided on one of its faces. At measurement of the flow velocity of a fluid, the bottom face (contact face) 14 of the wedge 12 is kept in contact with the fluid or a pipe in which the fluid flows, and ultrasonic waves are propagated in the fluid. One or more ultrasonic reflecting faces 13 perpendicular to the propagating direction of the ultrasonic waves are provided in the propagation path of the ultrasonic waves emitted to the wedge 12 from the piezoelectric vibrator 11 in the wedge 12 without restriction on the shape and position in particular. Part (ultrasonic wave S1) of the ultrasonic waves emitted from the piezoelectric vibrator 11 is reflected on the ultrasonic wave reflecting faces 13 and is returned to the piezoelectric vibrator 11. The ultrasonic propagation velocity in the wedge 12 can be calculated from the time, until the ultrasonic wave S1 is returned to the piezoelectric vibrator 11 after it is emitted and the known distances between the piezoelectric vibrator 11 and the ultrasonic reflecting faces 13.
