PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charger wherein the overcharge of a secondary batter by its trickle-charging is prevented, and the progress of deterioration of the secondary buttery can be suppressed. SOLUTION: A charger 10 has a charging circuit 20 for performing the controls of trickle- and quick-charging operations and a mode altering circuit 30 for altering the modes of the charging circuit 20. When performing the quick- charging operation, a mode-changeover signal of 0 V is inputted to a changeover-signal inputting terminal 21 to charge quickly in a first mode a secondary battery 40. When completing the quick-charging operation, a nearly equal voltage to a power supply voltage V+ is inputted to the changeover-signal inputting terminal 21 to perform in a fourth mode the trickle-charging of the secondary battery 40. As a result, the secondary battery 40 is charged with an enough small trickle-charging current to prevent the secondary battery 40 from being charged excessively by the trickle-charging and make suppressible the increase of its detrioration.
