PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a white balance adjustment circuit for a matrix type display device, where white balance and dispersion in luminance in high gradation area can simultaneously be corrected without losing image quality. SOLUTION: Designated area drive adjustment circuits 50R, 50G, 50B respectively adjust the gains of R, G, B signals in an area with a preset gradation level or higher for the R, G, B, signals outputted from an inverse gamma- correction circuit 4. The designated area drive adjustment circuits 50R, 50G, 50B adjust the white balance and luminance, when a full white level signal is displayed on a display panel 6.
