PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely pre-roll a magnetic tape even when a scene changing point exists. SOLUTION: This editor is provided with a complementer 19 which obtains the real time of a magnetic tape by complementing reproduced real-time data (time codes) with a control signal, a muting circuit 20 which mutes the real-time data, and a queuing-up processing section 13 to which the complemented real- time data are supplied and which controls the muting circuit 20. When an edition starting point is detected while the magnetic tape is run from an edition ending point side to the edition starting point side, the muting circuit 20 is operated. Then the complementer 19 calculates the running time of the magnetic tape from a scene changing point by using the control signal only. Thus the running of the magnetic tape is controlled based on the real-time data recorded on the tape until the tape passes the edition starting point of an editing scene and, from the moment the tape passes the edition starting point, the running of the tape is controlled to a pre-rolling point based on the control signal recorded on the tape. Therefore, the magnetic tape can be pre-rolled surely even when a scene changing point exists.
