PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable desired color reproducibility and light transmittance an to facilitate design by arranging color filters in correspondence to respective unit display regions and disposing the color filters so as to cover a part of the areas of the unit display regions and not to cover the remaining parts. SOLUTION: A color filter substrate 10 is constituted by depositing an SiO2 film at need on the surface of a glass substrate 1 by plasma chemical vapor deposition, etc., and forming a black matrix(BM) 2 thereon. The BM 2 has many apertures arrayed in a matrix form and the respective apertures decide the unit display regions which are light transparent regions. The color filters 3R, 3G and 3B are respectively independently formed on the substrate 1 formed with the BM 2. In such a case, only the partial areas out of the entire area of the light transparent regions are provided with the color filters 3 and the remaining areas of the light transparent regions are transparent to the total wavelength light of the visible region. The regions where the color filters 3 is not formed, therefore, exhibit a remarkable effect in improving the brightness of the LCD. |
