PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the displacement of an object by setting up a sensor where large position detecting sensitivity is obtained. SOLUTION: A position detector is provided at least with a pair of field coils, an AC power source 8 which makes alternating currents to flow to the field coils, and a sensor coil which is positioned between the field coils and detects the position of the sensor coil from the phase of the alternating current induced in the sensor coil. The AC power source 8 is provided with a current ratio adjusting circuit 13 which adjusts the ratio between the currents made to flow to the field coils and the current ratio is set so that the position of the sensor coil may be detected most accurately. In the position detector, in addition, three sets of field coils are arranged in orthogonal planes or the sensor coil is fixed to the moving part of a human body.
