PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the scuffing of an auger while improving an ice making capacity by a method wherein the amount of deflection of the auger is reduced to reduce a clearance between the cutting edge of the auger and the internal surface of a cylinder. SOLUTION: A first reinforcing beam 73, extended in the lengthwise direction of an auger, is provided on a part, positioned below the upper end 71 of a spiral edge 69 in the side part of the auger 45. Further, a second reinforcing beam 75, extended in the lengthwise direction of the auger, is provided at a position apart from the first reinforcing beam by about 180 deg. in the circumferential direction of the auger. According to this method, a reinforcing effect is obtained against a load applied on the auger in one direction upon compressing ice whereby the deflection of the auger is reduced. Accordingly, the scuffing of the auger can be prevented while improving the ice making capacity by reducing a clearance between the spiral edge of the auger and the internal surface of a cylinder.
