PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an induction heating coil high in heating efficiency in the quenching of a large-sized shaft material. SOLUTION: At least three pairs of axial inductors 11, 12,... each comprising a pair of axially extended axial conductors 11A, 11B,... are disposed in at least three positions on a circumference of a heated surface, and all of the axial conductors 11A, 11B,... are connected in series to form a single path without any branches in such a manner that currents flowing through two axial conductors 11A, 11B,... of each axial inductor 11, 12,... are oriented in the same direction. This arrangement shortens the heating time required to attain a quenching temperature.
