PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an arc from occurring when a moving contact leaves a fixed contact. SOLUTION: An electromagnetic relay comprises a core 31 inserted into a coil bobbin 20, a yoke 30 magnetically coupled with the core 31, a moving contact spring 40 with a one end part 41 fixed on the yoke 30, an armature 50 which is fixed on a free end part 42 of the moving contact spring 40 and opposes the core 31, one pair of an upper and a lower moving contacts 53 fixed on the free end part 42 of the moving contact spring 40, and one pair of fixed contacts 77 opposing the moving contacts 53. In this relay, a long and narrow magnet 85 having a length more than the length between the upper and lower contacts 53 is placed within a side wall of a cover 80 and opposes an interval between both the fixed contacts 77 and both the moving contacts 53. An arc occurring when the moving contact 53 leaves from the fixed contact 77 is removed by arc blast operation of the magnet 85. Since the magnet 85 is placed in the cover 80, damage can be prevented. Even if damage occurred, magnetical uniformity can be secured and occupational space can be saved.
